OjeOje is the first Danish eyewear brand to design and produce all our frames using recycled materials. Our frames are made from 50% recycled PC plastic from post-consumer waste (rPC) and 50% virgin PC material. In this way, we give materials a new life that might otherwise end up as waste, while ensuring the strength and durability an eyewear frame requires. And just as importantly: our unique and colourful glasses complete your look – and add an extra touch of eye-catching style!

About our glasses

Our glasses are designed in Denmark and produced in Taiwan by a carefully selected manufacturer. The recycled PC plastic from post-consumer waste (rPC) comes from a material supplier. The recycled material has been tested by SGS for relevant SVHC substances in accordance with the EU’s REACH regulations.

The frames are made from 50% recycled PC plastic and 50% virgin PC material. In this way, we give materials a new life that might otherwise end up as waste. This blend ensures the strength and durability required of an eyewear frame. Glasses are exposed to many stresses in everyday use, and a frame made from 100% recycled plastic does not provide the strength and durability we are looking for. For us, it is about designing high-quality glasses that are made to last. When glasses last longer, this helps reduce the need to purchase new glasses. That is why we consider long-lasting quality an important part of our approach to environmental responsibility.

Documentation & traceability of recycled PC plastic

We want to be honest and transparent about what OjeOje can document today. Our frames contain a minimum of 50% PC plastic from post-consumer waste (rPC). This is documented through a signed declaration from our carefully selected manufacturer in Taiwan. The recycled PC plastic comes from a material supplier. At the same time, we can trace our OjeOje glasses from the manufacturer in Taiwan through the documentation accompanying each shipment. This documentation includes information such as supplier, manufacturer, customer, order number, invoice number, shipping date and product style number. We continuously work to strengthen documentation and traceability throughout the different stages of our supply chain – from materials and production to the transportation of our glasses to Denmark.

What does quality mean at OjeOje?

A central part of our approach is that the most responsible pair of glasses is one that is used and lasts for a long time. That is why we design glasses with a focus on fit, aesthetics and durability. We work on solutions that balance design, quality and functionality while reducing the use of new fossil-based materials.

What are we focusing on?

Here, we have gathered the most important things we care about – from materials and design to quality, responsibility and our ambition to make a difference:

We design and produce all our frames using 50% recycled PC plastic from post-consumer waste (rPC) and 50% virgin PC material. In this way, we give materials a new life that might otherwise end up as waste. At the same time, we ensure the strength and durability required of an eyewear frame. The recycled material has been tested by SGS for relevant SVHC substances in accordance with the EU’s REACH regulations.

We work with a slow-fashion mindset, focusing on quality, longevity and more conscious consumption rather than short-lived trends.

We upcycle existing frames and use surplus textiles from Kvadrat to create handmade fabric cases, made in Denmark by volunteer Soroptimists.

We avoid overproduction by producing according to expected demand, which means we do not have clearance sales or sales events.

We repair and reuse our glasses whenever possible, and we accept used OjeOje glasses so they can be given a new life through donation.

We select suppliers with a focus on responsibility and shared values.

We continuously work to reduce our transport footprint wherever possible.

We use recycled paper and FSC-certified paper wherever possible, and we prioritise production close to our market.

We support Plastic Change and their work to reduce plastic pollution.

We collaborate with Væksthuset and contribute to supporting people who need assistance in entering the labour market.

We donate glasses to, among others, Burundi, Kibera, Bangladesh and Ukraine. #everyonehastherighttosee

And equally importantly: We provide great service and take pride in having satisfied customers. We have a 5-star rating on Trustpilot.

What is recycling?

Recycling literally means reusing or processing materials so they can be used again. It involves taking a material and transforming it into something new. The original material must first be processed before it can become something new. Recycling is an important process because it makes it possible to reuse materials that we no longer use.

A good example is our eyewear frames, which are made from 50% recycled PC plastic from post-consumer waste (rPC) and 50% virgin PC material. In this way, we give materials a new life that might otherwise end up as waste.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling is about reusing materials in their existing form. The materials are used again in the form they already have, but in a new way.

Our soft fabric glasses cases are a great example of upcycling. They are made from surplus fabric from the Danish textile company Kvadrat. The fabric remains fabric, but instead of becoming waste, it is transformed from leftover material into new, useful and unique glasses cases.
